Understanding the role of the oceans in the functioning of the planet is a huge challenge. After all, the oceans affect us and we affect the oceans in many ways. In this sense, researchers from the Graduate Program in Biological Oceanography (PPGOB), of the Institute of Oceanography at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG, RS, Brazil), are committed to understanding all facets of the oceans' complex connections with the atmosphere, with coastal regions, and with the entire spectrum of life, including humanity. Our research includes coastal-estuarine, oceanic environments, and covers areas from tropical regions to the Antarctic ecosystem. In addition to scientific exploration, the PPGOB's mission is to train professionals with an interdisciplinary vision of the oceans' functioning, capable of helping decision-makers find the best solutions.
