The Institute of Oceanography hereby announces the opening of a Simplified Selection Process for the recruitment of a Visiting Professor in the field of Biological Oceanography, pursuant to Law No. 8,745/1993, as amended by Law No. 12,772/2012.
1. OBJECTIVES
a) To promote the recruitment of a Brazilian Visiting Professor (VP) or a Foreign Visiting Professor (FVP) with a distinguished scientific and academic record, in order to support teaching activities, with emphasis on graduate education, as well as research and extension activities. b) To contribute to the development, strengthening, or creation of stricto sensu Graduate Programs (PPGs), in accordance with the Institutional Pedagogical Project (PPI) and the Institutional Development Plan (PDI) of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG).

Field of knowledge: Biological Oceanography
Graduate Program: Graduate Program in Biological Oceanography (PPGOB)
Research Areas: The successful candidate's field of expertise must fit within at least two of the following research areas:
i. Fisheries Biology (Research area focused on the study of biological processes influencing the population dynamics of exploited fishery resources, including age determination, individual growth,
reproduction, recruitment, mortality, feeding ecology, stock structure, and the effects of environmental factors on these processes).
ii. Fish Stock Assessment (Research area focused on estimating abundance, biomass, and exploitation status of fishery stocks through the application of quantitative methods and mathematical models
to interpret patterns of catches, fishing effort, and population dynamics).
iii. Fisheries Management (Research area focused on the development and improvement of methods and techniques aimed at ensuring the sustainable exploitation of fishery resources, balancing resource conservation with the socioeconomic viability of fisheries).
